A report by Bruce Levine stated the Cubs were looking for a defensive CF in a trade before the deadline and now will look for a defensive OF through the waiver period.
The Cubs look at different outfielders that can play good defense and 1 was Oakland's Rajah Davis. The did not care if they can hit but just see if they can play good in the field. Jim Hendry also contacted the Royals about Mark Teahen but they did not show much interest in trading Teahen.
Hot Stove Cubbies is reporting he is hearing the Cubs might put Aaron Miles, Milton Bradley, Mike Fontenot, Jeff Baker, Aaron Heilman on waivers to see if they draw interest.
Jim Hendry worked the phones to tweak his bench up until the deadline but everything decent was radically overpriced according to David Kaplan.
Tom Gorzolanny will be brought up Saturday from Triple A Iowa and start Tuesday for the Cubs.
The Cubs called up OF Sam Fuld from Triple A Iowa and sent P Mitch Atkins back to Triple A.
BJ Ryan pitched for Iowa Cubs yesterday and pitched 1.2 innings, giving up 1 walk and struck out 1.

Cubs Acquire Grabow and Gorzelanny, Rumors: Teahen and Hermida, other notes. Updates...
Update 4:50: ESPN Chicago reports the Cubs send pitchers Kevin Hart, Jose Ascaino and ED Price states the Cubs send 3B Josh Harrison in exchange for John Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny. Gorzelanny will report to Triple A Iowa.
Cubs get:
John Grabow is 3-0 with a era of 3.42 and has walk 28 and struck out 41 in 47.1 innings.
Tom Gorzelanny was 3-1 with a era of 5.19 and has walk 4 with 7 strikeouts in 8.2 innings out of relief and now is in Triple A.
Pirates get: (all minor league stats)
Jose Ascaino is 2-4 with a era of 3.16 and has walk 18 and struck out 47 batters in 51.1 innings for Triple A Iowa.
Kevin Hart was 3-3 with a era of 3.10 and has walk 20 and struck out 57 batters in 52.1 innings for Triple A Iowa.

Cubs Want Grabow/Teahen, Roster Move and much more... Breaking News
Breaking News: OF Reed Johnson Broke his foot when he foul a ball off it and is out at least a month. Sam Fuld is expected to be called up from Triple A Iowa.
Hot Stove Cubbies mentions the Cubs might be working on a 3-way trade with the Royals and Pirates. The Cubs will get John Grabow and Mark Teahen, Royals get Tom Gozelanny and a PTBNL from the Cubs and the Pirates get prospects. His source also says the Cubs are "working hard" to try to acquire both.
I would be in favor with that. Mark Teahen will play second and is batting over .290, John Grabow will be a lefty specialist then.
Could the Cubs be interested Orioles closer George Sherrill? Ken Rosenthal reports that 8 teams are interested on George Sherrill and 2 or 3 teams have actually discussed him.
That would be hard for the Cubs with the lack of prospects and they don't want to trade there top ones in any trades.

More Notes as the Trade Deadline Nears...

Bruce Miles says he expects the Cubs to bolster their bullpen before anything else and he names George Sherrill and Joe Beimel as players of interest.
East Windup Chronicle reports the Cubs have signed Taiwanese player of the year, Wang Tsu-an. They gave him a bonus of 300K. He is the third Taiwanese player of the year that they signed.

The Cubs sent down pitcher Justin Berg to make room for Ryan Dempster who is coming off the DL to pitch against the Astros today.

Cubs/Pirates Still Talking, Aaron Miles Can't Hit, Bruce Levine...
According to the Pittsburgh Post, the Cubs are in regular contact with the Pirates. He did not mention who they are talking about but I imagine John Grabow, Tom Gozelanny, Freddy Sanchez or Zach Duke.
The Cubs are hesitant to take Aaron Miles off the DL because he can't hit. Miles went 0-4 today and is batting .220 for Triple A Iowa Cubs.

Rumors...
The Cubs want Zack Duke instead of Tom Gozelanny and John Grabow from the Pirates. It was mention that Duke will cost a gadget of prospects. If they can get him cheap, I say get him.
Also sources mention the Cubs are in discussions with the Blue Jays about lefty Scott Downs. Downs is 35 years old and is making 3.75 million this year and is making 4 million next year.

Could the Tigers be Interested in Milton Bradley, Lilly on DL, Cubs not Searching for Catcher...
Updated 4:50: Tigers GM said that he does not want to have Milton Bradley on his team.
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports "there has been no conversation with any team about Bradley." We can probably now put these rumors to rest.
2:47pm: MLB.com's Jason Beck tweets, "Milton Bradley to Tigers? Not happening. According to one source, his name hasn't come up in Tigers discussions all year."
For what it's worth, the Chicago Sun-Times is also now reporting the rumor, but basically echoes the information below. We've yet to recieve word from a major media outlet on possible negotiations.
ChicagoNow.com's David Kaplan has heard from "two very solid baseball sources" that the rumor is true.
As Kaplan writes, "the Tigers have scouted Bradley and are interested depending on how much of his contract the Cubs are willing to eat." A change of scenery would probably do the 31-year-old outfielder some good. He's currently batting .242/.375/.368 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 231 at-bats.
According to Steve Stone of WSCR Chicago, the Tigers have shown some level of interest in Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley. The rumor isn't being reported by any other source, and with Carlos Guillen back in the fold in Detroit, it doesn't make a ton of sense. Perhaps Bradley could serve as the Tigers' DH. We'll keep you updated if the rumor grows any more legs.
