Split Squad Games, Sign Player, Roster Cuts

According to a Press Release, the Cubs sign IF Esteban German to a minor league deal. German was released by the Royals last week after clearing waivers. German will also compete for a starting job at third, he also played 6 position mainly second but also played third before in his career.

The also made 5 cuts today and send them down to the minor leagues and they are OF Richie Robnett, pitchers J. R. Mathes, Brian Schlitter, and Matt Smith, and Catcher Steve Clevenger.

The Cubs had there final split squad game if the spring with splitting 1 of 3.

The first game, the Cubs beat the Mariners 8-1. These players will make the team or might make the team.

Alfonso Soriano went 0 for 3.
Derek Lee went 0 for 3 with a strikeout.
Aramis Ramirez went 0 for 1 with a walk.
Jake Fox went 0 for 1.
Mike Fontenot went 1 for 2 with a single, rbi and a walk.
Reed Johnson went 1 for 3 with a single, rbi walk and a strikeout.
Koyie Hill went 1 for 4 with a single, rbi and a strikeout.
Pitchers:
Sean Marshall pitch 4.1 innings and gave up 3 hits, 1 run, walk and 3 strikeouts.
Luis Vizcaino pitch 0.2 innings and gave up a hit.
Jose Ascaino pitch 1 inning and struck out 1.

The Cubs lost the second game 8-2 against the Angels. These players will make the team or might make the team.

Joey Gathright went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
Ryan Theriot went 1 for 3 with a single.
Micah Hoffpauir went 1 for 3 with a single.
Milton Bradley went 1 for 3 with a single and a strikeout.
So Taguchi went 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout.
Pitchers:
Chad Gaudin pitch 1.2 innings and gave up 5 hits, 6 runs and 4 walks.
Ken Kadokura pitch 1 inning and gave up nothing.
