According to a source, the Cubs were 1 of multiple teams to watch pitcher Kelvim Escobar throw a session. Escolbar who miss most of the 2009 season with the Angels due to an arm injury went 0-1 with a 3.60 era in 5 innings pitch. In 2007 Escobar went 18-7 with a 3.40 era in 195.2 innings pitch Ben Badler said his fastball was from 92-94 mph. Not bad for a player that has an arm injury last year.
Other teams that watch Escobar throw are Rays, Brewers, Giants, Pirates, Tigers, Mariners and Athletics. The Mets probably also watch him throw because they are the only team to offer him a contract but it was a minor league deal and he declined it.
I would sign Escobar to a 1 year deal worth 1-2 million and hope he goes back to his 2008 form (stats).
I will keep you posted.
Escobar didn't pitch in '08.
