Another Roster Move, Could the Cubs be Interested in Freddy Sanchez...

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jeff Stevens will be recalled tomorrow to take Kevin Hart's spot on the roster. Kevin Hart will be optioned to Triple A Iowa tomorrow. Now the Cubs will go back to 7 relief pitchers.

Could the Cubs be interested in 2B Freddy Sanchez:

Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette mention that he heard from a Pirate official that they are pushing hard to deal 2B Freddy Sanchez. He also mentions that the Giants, Rockies and 4-5 other teams called the Pirate GM about Sanchez.

Sanchez makes $6.1MM this year and will make $8MM in 2010 if he picks up 271 plate appearances before the end of the season.

Jim Hendry better be 1 of the 6-7 GM's to call about Freddy Sanchez. Mike Fontenot is killing the Cubs at 2B with the glove and definitely with the bat. This is one move the Cubs have to make, maybe not for Sanchez but for a 2B. Jim Hendry should trade Fontenot and another prospect or 2 for Sanchez or an above average 2B.

NL Central News:

The St. Louis Cardinals are thinking about pursuing pitcher Roy Halladay. Today some Cardinal officials said they would not trade top prospect 21st overall Brett Wallace in a package for Halladay. Wallace is also there only prospect in the top 50. If they do make a trade for Halladay, it would destroy their whole farm system.

Also utility man and ex Cub Mark Derosa may be out for the rest of the season with the wrist injury.

I will keep you posted.
