Quick Updates and possible moves the Cubs can make...

Before today's game Geovany Soto was taking batting practice and injured his right oblique. Soto is day-to-day.

Possible moves: (My insight and remember not rumors unless by a MLB analyst.)

Buster Olney mentions the Cubs as a possible destination, he mentions 10 teams to go after pitcher Roy Halladay. The Cubs will most likely have to give up top prospect Josh Vitters (I would not) to get Hallady. Also it was reported that the Cubs will have a hard time to acquire Halladay due to the ownership and lack of talented prospects.

The Toronto Blue Jays released relief pitcher BJ Ryan today because of a miserable season. Ryan is a 33 year old lefty and lefties are only hitting .250 off him. I think the Cubs should try to sign him cheap and use him as lefty specialist, only to get lefties out. He had a good season last year coming back from Tommy John Surgery.

The DBacks are in selling mode and are willing to trade 2B Felipe Lopez. Lopez is batting .303 in 77 games this year. He is making 3.5 million this year and a free agent after this year. I think it will only take about 2 mid level prospects to acquire him.

NL Central News:

Ex Cub and now rival St. Louis Cardinal utility man Mark Derosa was placed on the 15 day DL with a wrist injury. He will not be available this series against the Cardinals.
