Cubs Acquire Grabow and Gorzelanny, Rumors: Teahen and Hermida, other notes. Updates...

Update 4:50: ESPN Chicago reports the Cubs send pitchers Kevin Hart, Jose Ascaino and ED Price states the Cubs send 3B Josh Harrison in exchange for John Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny. Gorzelanny will report to Triple A Iowa.

Cubs get:

John Grabow is 3-0 with a era of 3.42 and has walk 28 and struck out 41 in 47.1 innings.

Tom Gorzelanny was 3-1 with a era of 5.19 and has walk 4 with 7 strikeouts in 8.2 innings out of relief and now is in Triple A.

Pirates get: (all minor league stats)

Jose Ascaino is 2-4 with a era of 3.16 and has walk 18 and struck out 47 batters in 51.1 innings for Triple A Iowa.

Kevin Hart was 3-3 with a era of 3.10 and has walk 20 and struck out 57 batters in 52.1 innings for Triple A Iowa.

Josh Harrision batted .337 with 4 HR, 33 rbi's, 16 walks and struck out 25 times for Daytona Cubs.

Update 4:44: Kingclip is hearing the Cubs may send pitcher Jay Jackson to the Pirates in the trade.

Update 4:40: The deal is just about done.

Update 3:24: Kovacevic says Grabow and Gorzelanny to the Cubs is almost done, while Chris De Luca of the Chicago Sun-Times says they closed the deal. Jon Heyman says the deal is "very close".

Update 3:20: ESPN.com reports the Cubs are finalizing a deal for lefty John Grabow.

Update 2:57: Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the Cubs and Pirates are discussing a trade that would send Grabow and Gorzelanny to Chicago. No deal is in place and other teams remain interested in Grabow.

Update 2:30: Jon Heyman thinks the Cubs are getting closer to John Grabow and could acquire another pitcher as well. My guess the other pitcher is Tom Gorzelanny.

Jon Heyman reports the Cubs are in "serious discussions" with the Pirates about lefty John Grabow.

Jason Stark says the Cubs are :strictly mining the lefthanded reliever market" and not looking for a bat.

In a report by Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs prefer John Grabow over Joe Beimel. They continue to discuss Grabow with the Pirates. Also in the same report, the Cubs will stay in house for the replacement for Reed Johnson.

Gordon Wittnymer states the Cubs are looking for a left-handed bat who can play right field. Then Milton Bradley would be in a platoon mode. The Cubs only have 2-3 million to spend on a player.

2 left-handed batters that can play right field are Jeremy Hermida of the Marlins and Mark Teahen of the Royals. I would be in favor for Teahen but not for Hermida.

The Cubs are still looking for a outfielder, that is according to Chris De Luca of the Sun-Times.

The Cubs called up pitcher Jeff Stevens and officially placed OF Reed Johnson on the 15 day DL with a broken foot.

NL Central Update:

The Pirates traded 2B Freddy Sanchez to the Giants for a prospect.

The Brewers are not in on pitcher Jarrod Washburn.

The Blue Jays and Reds are still discussing 3B Scott Rolen.

The Astros are looking for starting pitching.

The Cardinals are looking for a right-handed reliever.

Astros release pitcher Russ Ortiz after giving up 9 ER against the Cubs today.

I will keep you posted.
