Reports coming out of Colorado over the week indicate outfielder Brad Hawpe will most likely be traded because he has no spot on the team. Colorado wants to get younger and also play younger and Hawpe is the odd man out.
Hawpe is 30 years old and is making 7.5 million in 2010 with a 10 million club option in 2011. He batted .285 with 23 HR and 86 rbi in 145 games in 2009.
On MLBtraderumors Tim Dierkes had a weekly chat that he has every week and was ask the question if Brad Hawpe is traded will is his likely destination and Tim said probably the Cubs. That is 1 more person that thinks if Hawpe is traded, he will be a Chicago Cub.
Things will have to happen first, Milton Bradley will have to be traded in order for Hawpe to have a position in RF and Tom Ricketts will have to give the OK to take on Hawpes contract.
Earlier in the month of late September and Early October the Cubs wanted to move Kosuke Fukudome back to RF and look for a CF via free agency or via trade. So if the Cubs do make the trade Hawper that will not be able to happe.
The Cubs will have to probably give up 3-4 decent prospects or major league ready ball players in exchange for Brad Hawpe.
I will keep you posted.
